There are countless great running locations in New Jersey but we just don’t have the time to list all of them
Hudson County – Liberty State Park
We like this 5 mile route around Liberty State Park because it has massive amounts of free parking, clean indoor bathrooms year round, and a flat scenic paved route covering a 5 mile loop. You can easily adjust the loop to do between 3 to 6 miles per loop. You get to run past the Statue of Liberty, along the Hudson River and past Ellis Island. It is also patrolled by Park Police and even on early morning runs you won’t be alone as there are other runners & visitors in the park. The downside is that there is no shade, so it can become too hot in the summer and during the winter the wind can be brutally cold along the river. The park can get crowded later in the day with tourists and families having a picnic so plan accordingly.

Bergen County – Saddle River Park
Saddle River Park offers a 13 mile out & back paved running path. The great thing about Saddle River Park is that you can enter the running path from the top in Paramus, or the bottom in Saddle Brook or several spots in the middle. You don’t have to worry about cars because this path has dedicated overpasses & underpasses to avoid roads. There are cyclists that use this mostly flat path. It is mostly flat with one minor hill in the middle. The running path is nice and serene as you run along the Saddle River and its many brooks. It is well shaded and the park department takes good care to keep the path in good condition. There are indoor bathrooms along the path and a few port a potties. You will find many dog walkers enjoying this path.
